For the past few years, the UNH Fish and Movement Ecology Lab have assisted Hampton life guards and the Rye Fire Department listen for tagged white sharks off the NH coast. These white sharks are tagged with acoustic telemetry transmitters by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries and then detected on receivers placed in the water up and down the coast. Our group helps download the five receivers placed among the NH beaches, and checks detections against lists of known white shark tags, provided by AWSC.

Local media, including NH Chronicle and WMUR, covered this collaboration between science and public safety.
